8 1st & 2nd December 2007

Arundel and Littlehampton Scouts and Haskins Roundstone team up to help raise funds for Campsite.

On the 1st and 2nd December Arundel and Littlehampton District, Cubs, Scouts and Explorer Scouts raised several hundred pounds at Haskins Roundstone to help develop their Local Scout Campsite in Angmering.

Scouts who are celebrating their centenary in 2007, helped customers with bag packing and Santa was even on hand to welcome customers to the store.

The District Scout Band provided entertainment and there was also a chance for customers to try their luck on a special tombola.

The District campsite that will benefit from the funds, is a wooded site that is used by a number of organisations as well as the Scouts, including the Girl Guides. The Angmering site provides a fantastic resource to help young people develop their life skills in a wonderful safe outdoor environment. The problem that faces the Scouts is the toilet facilities have seen better days and do not meet the standards that are expected today. In order to replace these ageing ablutions £25,000 is required to provide new ones, to allow the hundreds of young people enjoy the outdoor life into the future.

8 1st December 2007

Scouts from Arundel and Littlehampton District pilled into a new Skoda Scout to finish off the celebrations for their 100 years of Scouting.

Supported by Skoda, the Scouts aimed to fill every nook and cranny of the car named after them to help publicise the success of their Centenary celebrations in 2007. The new, car loaned by Skoda, saw over 20 of Cubs and Scouts filling up its interior and boot spaces. Although they did not quite beat any world records the Cubs and Scouts had fun in trying.

8 8th March 2007

6 Leaders from Arundel and Littlehampton District travelled to Windsor Castle on the 8th March 2007, after being selected to attend the special evensong service in St.George’s Chapel led by the Dean of the chapel, which was to dedicate new furnishings for the Rutland Chantry. The Furnishings were bought following an appeal through Scouting in the UK to celebrate the close connection with Scouting and Windsor castle.

Since 1934, Kings and later Queens Scouts from all over the UK annually parade through Windsor and end up at the National Scout service in St Georges Chapel and join with Scoutings Good Service award holders. This gift of new furnishings in the 100th Year of Scouting cements the close association with Scouts and the Chapel.

The leaders from the District attended the service along with a two hundred other Leaders from all over the UK. Theses local leaders were pleased to have the chance to talk, whilst waiting in line, to the current Chief Scout, actor, adventurer and former Blue Peter presenter Peter Duncan and shared stories of what was happening locally. Also in attendance at the service was former Chief Scout George Purdy CBE, who originally launched the appeal
