WS 2008 Camp Chief letter Feb 2008
Jamboree on the Trail, May 10th - Update
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
-
Some leaders do not appear to have been
informed that the District Eggstravaganza has been postponed
- as agreed by the GSL's at the last team meeting owing to a new diary
clash with Ferring's event. Please ensure your leaders do know as some
have been collecting money to attend.
-
1st Ferring are running an Easter
Egg Hunt on 16 March - sorry but I do not have any
information to scan and send round. I believe all GSL's were given
this in hard copy at the last team meeting.
-
5 / 6 April is the
next available weekend for your leaders to validate learning modules
/ have their personal learning plans set etc etc. Due to a clash
wish Arundel's 10k run which we weren't aware of when the dates were
set - we are only able to off AM on the Sunday. Leaders should
contact myself to make appointments.
-
5 May - please
confirm with Prue your attendance, or otherwise, at the Haskins
event so that we have some idea of numbers attending.
-
13 April - Scout
Camp Cooking Comp. - details sent with last mailing and available
on our website - Please encourage your Scout sections to
participate.
Deadline for entries, 17 March.
-
16 April - St
George's Day rehearsal 6:30pm prompt start at Arundel Cathedral.
All standard bearers and anyone involved with the Service must
attend please.
-
20 March - Bronze
& Silver Award presentations - AM / St George's Day Parade - PM.
Please ensure all paperwork for
Bronze and Silver Awards has been sent in.
Form now available on the web site.
CSA Gold Award and above Application
-
County PL Training
- no-one within A&L was interested. A shame considering some are
still finding PL's a challenge at the younger age.
-
Training - Please
continue to encourage your existing leaders to complete their wood
badges and new leaders / adults to attend the Modules 1 & 3 run
within the District.
-
Existing leaders who have either
changed role within a Section ie ASL to SL or who have changed
Section ie Scouts to Cubs will need to re-visit their training (not
necessarily have to do any more but will need a new learning plan
and validation on, hopefully, their prior learning). Without the
correct wood badge / training we are advised that any awards (other
than the service awards for years done) will not be considered by
HQ.
-
PR - we haven't
appeared in the local paper for a couple of weeks - please don't
forget that Simon Burgess is happy to come to your meetings /
investitures / events to take the photos etc for the paper - please
use him.
-
When sending in "renewal"
CRB forms to Anjie - please ensure that you attach a note
with group / section and confirmation that it is a renewal.
Likewise, if you are sending AA forms to ensure
that your longstanding Exec officers are included in the national
database - please ensure the members start date is correct,
otherwise they could lose years of service, and make sure that it is
clear to Anjie that the reason this is being sent in is because the
member does not appear on the national database, otherwise, they
could suddenly find themselves being asked to attend the
appointments committee!
-
Nights Away Notification
Forms - please ensure leaders are using the updated form
available from Scoutbase and circulated previously along with the
updated Assessment criteria information.
-
Please remember - information will
be placed on the District website for you, and your
leaders, to view at any time.
-
All cheques for membership
fees should be with Jeremy Kett, District Treasurer, this week in
order to take advantage of any discounts.
-
Groups who have purchased items at
the Worthing Scout Shop will shortly receive their
10% "rebate" cheques which have been sent to me to pass on. These
will go direct to your Treasurer.
-
New programme resources
are now available from the Scout Shop as previously notified.
However, please note that it is not necessary for everyone to go out
immediately and purchase it. Some of the material is no different
(well, maybe the cover's changed and a few typos corrected) from
what you arleady have available - either in hard format or to
download. It is suggested by HQ that things such as Certificates
should be used up before purchasing new as there is no specific
change over / cut off date from "old" to "new".
-
Census:Congratulations
- we are up in numbers nearly 4% overall.
-
County Recruitment &
Development Officer - A CRDO has now been
appointed. Andrea Bailey will take up her job around the 1st
week of June - full details of her role and how to apply for her
assistance in respect of District Development opportunities will
follow shortly.
-
Thank You to
1st Ferring for the Quiz they ran for Founders Day. The
District Team did you all proud - we came in 5th (out of 5
teams!!)
-
County Logo -
Please note that you will shortly see a new County Logo. This
has been designed to, not only reflect that 2012 is another
anticipated milestone in Scouting, but also that within West
Sussex, we are now aiming for 2012 new recruits.
