The Viewpoint Newsletter provides information to all the Adults involved in Scouting in the Arundel and Littlehampton District.

December 2002

ˇ         Merry Christmas & Happy New Year – 2002 has seen some dramatic changes to Scouting in the UK and in A&L District, bringing a new programme to allow the future to be very bright. The District Commissioner and the District Team wish you all a peaceful Christmas season and would like to thank you for you hard work in 2002 and wish you well in the year to come.

ˇ        Carnival Floats – It has come to light that due to insurance law, the Scout Association Insurance policy does not cover members of the Scout Association for travelling on the back of lorries etc. in carnival type processions. The only way that members can take part in this activity is when the driver of the lorry/vehicle has specific insurance for this purpose. If the driver has not got this insurance then he will be breaking the law if he carries persons on the back, as well as those persons not being covered by any insurance. So please check when hiring/borrowing vehicles and insure such insurance cover is present.

ˇ         Explorer Scouts – Acting Explorer Scout Leaders will be meeting at 1st East Preston HQ on 15th January 2003 @ 8.00pm to formulate the final plans to fully implement the Explorer Section in Arundel & Littlehampton. If you want to put your point of view across, please either tell your acting Explorer Scout Leader or contact the District Explorer Scout Commissioner Ian Buckman  explorers@al-scouts.org.uk who will be only too pleased to listen.

Soon after this meeting has taken place a young peoples meeting will take place (TBA) to ensure that Explorer Scout themselves have a say in their future.

A new badge secretary has been appointed. New contact details are: - Dawn Burgess,  badges@al-scouts.org.uk The resemblance to the DC’s contact details is purely coincidental.
